When you are first diagnosed, you may hear a lot of unfamiliar words related to IBD and your care. Our helpful glossary contains some of the most common IBD terms so you can feel empowered and educated when talking with your healthcare team.
Clinical Trials Day is May 20.
Clinical Trials Day is a day to recognize the crucial role that clinical trials play in advancing medical research and treatment. For those suffering from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, clinical trials offer the possibility of new advancements and treatments. Join the Clinical Trials Community and discover the latest breakthroughs in IBD research. Learn about ongoing clinical trials and how you can participate in them. By taking part, you'll not only gain access to cutting-edge treatments, but you'll also contribute to the development of better therapies for those who are currently struggling with these conditions. Don't miss this opportunity to make a difference in your life and in the lives of others.
IBD & Me Activity Center
First getting diagnosed with IBD can be confusing and may feel like you’re the only one. But millions of people all over the world have IBD! Meet Ben, Kat, and their friends in their comic as they find out what it’s really like living with IBD and play along with their interactive games!
VOWST Approved by FDA For Prevention of Recurrent C. diff Infection
Recently, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration announced the approval of VOWST for the prevention of recurrence of C. Difficile infection (CDI), in adults following antibacterial treatment for recurrent CDI. VOWST is the first orally administered microbiota-based therapeutic for the prevention of recurrent CDI.
C. difficile, a gut-infecting bacterium, commonly known as C.diff, is responsible for sickening half a million people and causing up to 30,000 deaths in the United States annually, often as a result of antibiotic treatment. People with IBD are at a higher risk of developing CDI, even if they haven't taken antibiotics.
The Foundation is actively updating its materials and will be posting on our social media accounts to inform patients of this approval. VOWST information for patients is available here.
Please note that approval of a medication does not mean it is available yet on the market. We will notify you once VOWST is available to patients. Each patient’s disease is different and what works for one person may not for another. Because of the individual nature of IBD it is important that treatment options be available for patients to help manage their disease and improve their quality of life. We are hopeful that with new options available more patients will find success in managing their disease and achieving remission.
Additional information will be provided once all the details are gathered. If you are contacted by any constituents regarding this new approval, please direct them to the IBD Help Center.
