  • I was born in Florida and raised in Connecticut by my mother. I always had really great health but in January of 2010 I started to have terrible constant stomach pain. I went to my doctor, the ER, and the health center across the street from me constantly with nothing to show. Eventually, an ER doctor suggested I see a gastroenterologist. In late march I had a colonoscopy, endoscopy and biopsy. By April I had the results and was diagnosed with just Celiac Disease, which was a relief to my mother because she thought I had Crohn's Disease. Then, on June 3, 2010 I woke up with excruciating pain in my stomach. My mother took me to the ER and after a CT scan and blood work I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I have had multiple hospital stays since then and many different medication regiments. I don't let my Crohn's and my history with it hold me back though. High school was difficult due to this illness but I was able to graduate on time. I had no college plans and no idea what I was going to do with my life. But on a vacation to see my family who lives in Los Angeles an amazing thing happened; they offered to let me live with them and go to Santa Monica College. I am currently enrolled there with hopes to go to UCLA. I volunteer with CCFA's greater Los Angeles chapter and with the UCLA Medical Center. Crohn's sent me into a spiral of depression after my diagnoses. I was able to dig myself out of that hole and become successful in life and health. With that experience I hope to become a clinical psychologist or a school social worker.
