In 1987, Dr. J. Marshall Garrett, a Birmingham gastroenterologist, joined with Conrad and Frances Cypress to found the Alabama Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. They started by holding support groups for patients and families, providing hope and community to many.
