We need your voice!

Join the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation for a day of advocacy at the Georgia State Capitol.  Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis affect more than 42,000 people in Georgia; 10% of whom are children under the age of 18.  In 2018 we took 25 patients and caregivers to the Capitol and lobbied for House Bill 519 and because of our efforts it ALMOST PASSED!  We need you come with us to tell your story to your legislator and tell them how they can support your health and your future.

What legislation are we trying to pass?

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation supports legislation that would implement patient protections in insurer step therapy protocols.  Step therapy (also know as "Fail First") is a practice by which insurers require patients to fail on a preferred medication before covering the physician-prescrived medication.  Step therapy can and has resulted in worsened health outcomes for IBD patients.  Treatment decisions must be kept between the patient and the physician.

Legislation addressing step therapy include the following components:

  • Clinical review criteria used to establish a step therapy protocol shall be based on clinical practice guidelines.
  • A step therapy exception request shall be granted in certain circumstances and within a 72 hour time period.

Join the Georgia Chapter to advocate for patient rights and provide patients access to the right medication to control their diseases.  Please register in advance!
