Camp Physician

In addition to the qualifications we seek in all volunteers, as outlined on the Volunteer page, the Camp Physician role has its own set of parameters:

General Responsibility
Oversee the camp's medical operations according to the camp mission, guiding principles, and medical manual; to supervise all medical care.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assume overall responsibility for any medical situation that may arise
  • Assist with staff training, discussing IBD in children and its impact
  • Provide direction on and supervise all treatment and medical procedures
  • Order medications (if needed)
  • Transfer care to and from other camp physicians upon arrival and departure from camp
  • Complete appropriate forms (Incident Reports, Medications Log, etc.) in a timely manner
  • Assist in evaluating the entire camp operation with suggestions for the following season
  • As needed, speak with campers' parents
  • Perform other duties as designated by Medical Director

Essential Functions

  • Ability to assist in staff training
  • Ability to help monitor health and safety of the camp population
  • Ability to diagnose ailments and provide care as needed
  • Ability to reach patients on rugged terrain

Specific Qualifications

  • Possess valid DEA and physician's licenses (or obtain appropriate reciprocity) to practice medicine in the state in which camp is located
  • Possess medical liability insurance
  • Desire and ability to work with children and adults with IBD in a camp setting
  • Preferred: Experience with pediatric GI patients or emergency rooms
  • Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training
