Taking Steps with Team CDL

Each year, teams register for their local Take Steps walk and fundraise, trying to achieve the coveted top fundraising team award. However, very few are as committed and see as much success as Team CDL from Take Steps West Palm Beach.  Led by Joel and Irene Levine, Nancy Margagliano, and Michelle Price, Team CDL consists of team members from Caler, Donten, Levine, Cohen, Porter, & Veil, P.A., a local CPA firm in the West Palm Beach, Florida area.

Team CDL was the top fundraising team this past fall for the 2016 Take Steps walk in West Palm Beach. Because of their dedication to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and its mission, they raised more than $80,000 in a matter of months, making them again the #1 fundraising team in the country in 2016!

When Joel and Irene Levine’s daughter, Rebecca, was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in her teens, the family vowed to do everything in their power to help find a cure for inflammatory bowel diseases. “It was a very difficult time in our lives watching our child suffer and waiting for a diagnosis,” says Joel.

The Levine’s fundraising efforts began with their participation in the Team Challenge event with their daughter, Rebecca. It was during this time that their fight against ulcerative colitis was introduced to Caler, Donten, Levine, Cohen, Porter, & Veil, P.A., the CPA firm where Joel is one of the founding shareholders.  Each year now, CDL shares Rebecca’s experience with ulcerative colitis through a heartfelt letter sent to friends, family, and business contacts.

“Being passionate about the cause has made fundraising successful for us. Expressing to others how the Foundation helped our daughter when she was first diagnosed with ulcerative colitis demonstrates the value this organization brings to patients and their families.  This disease effects many people we deal with on a daily basis, whether we know it or not.”

Standing more than 50 strong, Team CDL collectively raised more than $80,000 in 2016. Since their first event, the Levines and Team CDL have been active supporters with the Foundation, raising more than $400,000 through Take Steps and Team Challenge.

Take Steps teams are critical to the success of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. Their fundraising efforts support our mission to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
