locally funded research for cures and better treatments.

NEEDHAM, MA, October 27, 2020 – The Crohn’s & Colitis New England Chapter caps its 2020 fundraising season by honoring healthcare leaders throughout New England devoted to finding better treatments and cures for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) that impact 1 in 100 Americans, including more than 130,000 throughout the Commonwealth, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Rhode Island.
As the country shut down in March and the months following, care for patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis did not. The Foundation will honor the forty-five members of the New England Chapter Medical Advisory Committee and all IBD healthcare professionals as the Humanitarians of the Year for their dedication and continued care for people living with inflammatory bowel diseases.
The Foundation will also recognize former Chapter Medical Advisory Committee Chairs with the Joan Cutler Lifetime Achievement Award. This award began 10 years ago to honor the unwavering determination of Joan Cutler and her appreciation of outstanding professional efforts dedicated to making a dramatic impact on the lives of patients with IBD. This is only the second time this recognition has been bestowed. The eleven recipients include: Athos Bousvaros, MD, MPH, Adam Cheifetz, MD, Francis Farraye, MD, MS, Steven Fine, MD, Sonia Friedman, MD, Matthew Hamilton, MD, Leslie Higuchi, MD, MPH, Frederick Makrauer, MD, Bruce Sands, MD, Samir Shah, MD, and Harland Winter, MD.
Our healthcare heroes will be honored alongside Woman of the Year, Ellen Calmas, from Boston, whose parents were part of the four families who founded the New England Chapter and elevated gastrointestinal diseases to the forefront of research needs. Ellen now supports the Foundation in honor of her parents and her two children who are disease affected.
The Reimagined Fête for Crohn’s & Colitis will stream at 7:30pm EST on Saturday, November 14. For more details, contact [email protected].
No tickets will be sold for the virtual event.
