Take Steps – Register Today & $50,000 Match

If you’re still not registered for Take Steps, you’re not too late! Register today for the Hybrid Twin Cities Walk (virtual or drive-thru at Viking Lakes) or the Virtual Rochester Walk to join our incredible IBD community on Saturday, June 12. In addition to having an incredible impact on IBD patients and caregivers, your fundraising can also earn you fantastic incentives!

· Raise $100 or more to become a Pacesetter and earn a ‘100% Committed’ Pacesetter tshirt. Personal fundraising incentives get better the more you fundraise – a Take Steps hat at $350, your choice of duffel bag or picnic blanket at $1,000, beach blanket or hammock chair at $5,000 and jacket, vest or rolling cooler at $10,000.

· The captains of ‘100% Committed’ teams who meet all incentive criteria by June 12th will receive a $50 DoorDash gift card. ‘100% Committed’ teams include at least three people, all of whom are fundraising, and who have collectively raised at least $500.

· A team member and guest for each team raising $10,000 or more will be invited to participate in an exclusive, virtual conversation with our President & CEO Michael Osso, Chief Scientific Officer Caren Heller, and some of the country's top IBD physicians and scientists in early 2022.

May 19th is World IBD Day! We stand with our IBD community worldwide by raising awareness about IBD, urging governments and healthcare professionals to take action and showing support for the millions of IBD patients worldwide. Join this global movement on May 19th by logging into your Fundraising Center and sending pre-drafted emails to your network asking for donations. You can also easily start a Facebook fundraiser that will link directly to your personal fundraising page. Thanks to the generosity of Chris and Heidi Stolte, all donations made to Take Steps in May will be matched, up to $500,000*. Continue fundraising, or get started, throughout May and help us secure an additional $500,000 for Take Steps.

It’s Not Too Late to Paint the Town with Us!

Join our Young Professionals Group Thursday, May 13th at 7:30PM for a fun painting class via Zoom! Paint solo and meet other IBD patients & supporters in the zoom class or invite your crew over for a paint night at your place as we all paint together. All supplies will be mailed to you and a portion of all sales will be donated back to the Foundation! New & re-imagined activities, special guests, and interactive virtual platforms will provide an unforgettable and unique experience, while time-honored Camp Oasis traditions, friendships, and connections will ensure a meaningful and empowering week for every camper, family, and volunteer.

Virtual Camp Oasis is open to all kids and teens with IBD entering grades 2-12 in the Fall of 2021.

Mayo Clinic Minute: Can Diet Help IBD?

The Minnesota/Dakotas Chapter of the Foundation is proud to partner with the Mayo Clinic as a Friend of the Foundation. The Mayo Clinic website is a reliable resources for patients looking to learn more about their disease. Check out this 1-minute video with Dr. Amanda Johnson, a Mayo Clinic gastroenterologist, who helps us better understand IBD and whether diet can help.


Italian American Club & Foundation Golf Tournament

The Italian American Club has supported the Foundation’s Minnesota Camp Oasis since 2017. This summer they will be putting on a golf tournament to raise money for their Foundation, which funds programs such as Camp Oasis. Join them for their 24th annual tournament on Thursday, July 15 at the Manitou Ridge Golf Course in White Bear Lake. Coping with IBD Pain and Fatigue

Did you know that 50-70% of patients report GI or abdominal pain when their IBD symptoms began and/or when their disease is active? Having pain, both inside and outside the gut, as well as fatigue are commonly reported among IBD patients. Explore our new webpages to learn more about the causes of pain and fatigue as well as ways to treat and manage those symptoms.


Preparing to Manage IBD On My Own

As a teen with IBD, you may already be well on your way in preparing to manage your disease on your own, or perhaps there are some skills you need to improve. You can find more information, tips, and helpful links about transitioning to adult care here. Also, check out this video, where Pete talks to Nicole about how she learns to become more independent with IBD. Remember to speak to your parent or guardian and healthcare team about gaining the skills you need for your journey with IBD as an adult.


Understanding Pediatric IBD Clinical Trials

Interested in understanding the importance of pediatric clinical trials? Pediatric clinical trials for IBD allow researchers to determine what the best dosage and frequency of treatment is for children and teens. Researchers can test the effects of new treatments with the overall goal of providing safe and effective therapies tailored for children with IBD. In-person support groups are currently not meeting, but some groups are offering virtual options. Please check out our support group page for additional information about your local support groups and reach out to the listed support group facilitator for more information.

The Foundation has several resources that patients with IBD may find helpful in terms of support when the group is not meeting:

Power of Two: Connects those seeking support to volunteers who have gone through similar experiences with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Connections are made within an app by phone or by chat. This program is open to patients & caregivers. For more information contact [email protected].

Crohn's & Colitis Online Community: Connect with others, join discussion forums​, ask an expert a question​, or share your experiences.

Campus Connection: Provides a variety of tools and resources for college students with IBD.
