Plant-Based Diet May Help Crohn's Disease Remission, Case Report Suggests

Could a plant-based diet be the next step to your remission? A recent case report published in the journal Nutrients indicates that a raw diet can help induce remission in Crohn’s patients. After a young man in his 20’s found that his unrelated diet choices eliminated his need for medication while in remission, he decided to fully commit to the plant-based diet and has not relapsed since his initial dietary change. When an upper endoscopy was done on the patient, it revealed the complete healing of the lining in his small bowel. Plant-based diets are extremely high in fiber which promotes overall gut health and also feeds the healthy bacteria in our gut which offers a protective effect. This case study truly shows how the food we put into our bodies can act as medicine and in some instances, it can replace the need for medicine altogether.
