PRO-KIIDS
History and Mission
In 2005, the foremost Pediatric IBD basic and clinical researchers met with medical leadership of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation to set out priorities in pediatric science and to further pediatric IBD treatment and research. Already heavily involved in programs and research focused on youth and infants, the Foundation embraced the challenges presented at that meeting and further broadened its portfolio of pediatric IBD research and patient services, becoming the worldwide leader in funding for IBD pediatric research, education and support.
From this meeting, the Pediatric Resource Organization for Kids with Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases (PRO-KIIDS) was instituted as the umbrella organization focused on moving the pediatric IBD agenda forward. Promoting pediatric IBD research is the major objective of PROKIIDS, and involves various institutions working together on mutually agreed upon clinical research projects. Network membership is open to all pediatric centers caring for children, adolescents, and young adults affected by Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Organization
The PROKIIDS Network is a standing committee of the NSAC comprised of the PROKIIDS Co-Chairs, voting site-PI members, the Director of Quality of Care and Clinical Research Programs, the Chief Scientific Officer at the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, and the Chairperson of the NSAC.
Membership
Institutional members are independently administered primary centers consisting of hospitals, medical centers, research institutes or community practices, or a group of such centers which have developed an IBD related research program approved by PROKIIDS and administered by a site Principal Investigator.
