At Take Steps, we are a community of patients, caregivers, supporters, and healthcare professionals. Together, we fundraise for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) cures and aim to support and empower everyone impacted by Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Dollars raised by Take Steps positively affect patient outcomes. That’s what we call theTake Steps Effect.
We are excited to share a groundbreaking study, led by Foundation-supported investigators, that has identified specific strains of gut bacteria that are linked to IBD. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital analyzed thousands of stool samples from IBD patients and healthy individuals and discovered hundreds of bacterial lineages more prevalent in IBD samples. The findings, which are published in Cell Host & Microbe , could point the way to new diagnostics and tailored treatments for the millions of American living with IBD.

The Foundation is proud to have been a pioneer in microbiome exploration since the 1980s. Our Microbiome Initiative, launched in 2008, has yielded findings that have been published in more than 70 scientific papers in leading journals and are advancing the field of precision medicine. Your ongoing support makes these advancements possible and brings us closer to our next breakthrough.
