| New Study on the Incidence of Pediatric IBD
As you may start seeing these statistics, we wanted to share with you a groundbreaking new study showing that over 100,000 American youth under the age of 20 are living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This study was a collaboration between the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation and researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Pennsylvania.
This comprehensive research, published in the leading journal Gastroenterology , highlights a significant increase in pediatric IBD cases, with Crohn's disease rising by 22% and ulcerative colitis cases by 29% since 2011. It indicates that the prevalence of pediatric IBD in the United States ranks among the highest globally. The true numbers may be even greater, as this study could not include patients without commercial or state insurance.
The data gathered provides critical insights to inform healthcare professionals in managing IBD among pediatric patients, to influence policymakers making public health decisions, and to drive research for pediatric IBD.
The Foundation remains immensely committed to advancing care for our youngest patients and paving the way for a healthier future.

NSAC Chair Application Now Open
The Chair of the National Scientific Advisory Committee (NSAC) of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is key to helping the Foundation achieve its mission. The NSAC Chair plays a key role in advising the Foundation leadership on strategy and vision for the Foundation’s activities, including research, education, support, and advocacy. The Chair appoints the various NSAC sub-committee chairs and co-chairs. The NSAC Chair is an official member of several Foundation committees, including Board of Trustees committees and major Foundation initiatives, such as the IBD Plexus Advisory Committee.
