New Global Collaboration to Advance Pediatric IBD Treatments
We’re proud to share that the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is supporting a new global initiative aimed at improving treatment options for children living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). For too long, pediatric specialists have had no choice but to use adult-approved drugs “off-label” to treat their youngest patients—often facing limited data and costly insurance barriers. This lack of approved drugs for children with IBD exists despite the fact that many drugs used for adult IBD that have been approved for other pediatric autoimmune conditions. Now, through a collaboration with the Critical Path Institute and world-renowned pediatric experts, the new Critical Path Disease Modeling Coalition aims to use advanced modeling technology to simulate how Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis progress in children. These models will support drug development programs through improved clinical trial design and greater predictability in pediatric drug development pathways. The Foundation is excited to provide its expertise to this coalition with the goal of accelerating approval of novel therapies for children with IBD worldwide. Your support helps make this kind of innovation possible to bring new hope and better care to children and families affected by IBD.
