2025 Take Steps Healthcare Honored Hero: Dr. Ben Hyatt
Published: February 4, 2025
“I would never consider myself a Healthcare Professional Hero, but I am truly honored to receive this award. The true heroes are my patients, who deal with these conditions daily. I am always amazed by their courage and perseverance.”
Dr. Benjamin Hyatt, a Gastroenterologist at Gastro Health Acton, embodies the essence of compassion and dedication to his work. As an IBD practitioner for 15 years, Dr. Hyatt centers compassion, advocacy, and the patient perspective at the crux of his practice. Dr. Hyatt’s unwavering commitment to his patients goes beyond providing the highest quality of care—it includes understanding their perspectives while also tirelessly advocating for them. This remarkable blend of passion, empathy, and excellence makes him the New England Take Steps 2025 Healthcare Professional Honored Hero.
More than ten years ago, Dr. Hyatt began participating in Take Steps.

“The Take Steps Walk event is a wonderful experience seeing patients, family, and providers together in one place for a common goal."
Dr. Hyatt strongly believes in the partnership between caregivers, patients, and medical professionals. He recognizes Take Steps as an inspiring event that fosters the collaboration of these partnerships, uniting communities to raise funds for research, treatment, and ultimately, a cure for those living with IBD
“Every institution and medical practice that cares for patients with inflammatory bowel disease should consider becoming involved with the Take Steps Walk.” Says Dr. Hyatt.
The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation has been an invaluable resource to Dr. Hyatt. It has enabled him to connect with fellow IBD specialists and link his patients with others who share similar experiences. Through the Foundation, he has provided his patients with access to a wealth of information and resources, empowering them to be a driving force behind their health. Beyond building a supportive network for himself and his patients, Dr. Hyatt also actively participated in events promoting legislation that advocates for the needs and rights of those living with IBD.

“I hope Take Steps will have continual growth year after year to bring more individuals together who have a common goal of improving the lives of those who live with inflammatory bowel disease.” – Dr. Hyatt
The support of a dedicated healthcare provider is not only essential in navigating the challenges of this disease—it can be the thread that holds everything together. The constant uncertainty and worry caregivers often experience can feel overwhelming and even paralyzing. Healthcare professionals like Dr. Hyatt provide the guidance, motivation, and hope caregivers need to persevere and support their loved ones with strength and resilience.
As a caregiver myself, I’ve faced many moments of despair. Without the support of my incredible healthcare team and the remarkable strength of my son, who lives with IBD, I might have allowed that despair to take over. It’s people like Dr. Hyatt, along with the inspiring resilience of those living with IBD, who fuel the determination to fight. They are the reason to be motivated to participate in impactful fundraisers like Take Steps.

Join New England Take Steps on June 7th at North Point Park in Cambridge, MA and be part of a powerful movement. Walk alongside caregivers, patients, advocates, and dedicated professionals like Dr. Hyatt. Together, we can raise awareness for IBD, generate funds for vital treatments, and move closer to finding a cure for those living with this challenging condition.
