Getting Diagnosed

It can be hard to tell when someone has IBD, because everyone’s symptoms are different. Sometimes one person with IBD might have completely different symptoms from another person, even when they have the same disease. People respond differently to different treatment plans.

By now, you’ve probably been to plenty of appointments with your healthcare team to learn that you have IBD, and what type of IBD you have. You’ve also probably talked to a lot of different people about how to stay healthy. All those people who are working together to help you take charge of your health are members of your healthcare team.

Your healthcare team includes any doctors and nurses that you visit, but it also includes your parents or guardians, and sometimes other people, like therapists or dietitians. You’re also a member of your own healthcare team! This is the team who will work with you to make sure that your symptoms are being treated.
