Donor-advised Funds (DAFs) FAQs:

How does a DAF work?

You contribute to a sponsoring organization, and then you recommend grants from that fund to qualified charities.

Why do donors use DAFs?

DAFs are often used for their flexibility, tax advantages, and ability to organize charitable giving in one place.

Can I recommend a recurring gift from my DAF?

Yes. Many DAF sponsors allow recurring grants, subject to their own procedures.

Do I need to open a DAF to give from one?

No. If you already have a DAF, you can recommend a grant to support our organization through your sponsor.

Can my DAF grant be tax-deductible?

The tax deduction is generally associated with the contribution to the DAF, not the grant made from it.
