Camp Dietitian

In addition to the qualifications we seek in all volunteers, as outlined on the Volunteer page, the Camp Dietitian role has its own set of parameters:

General Responsibility
Provide dietary support to campers and train staff in accordance with the camp mission, guiding principles, and medical manual.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist cameprs in choosing meal and snack options based on their individual dietary needs
  • Provide on-going support to campers regarding dietary needs
  • Participate in camper check-in to meet campers with special dietary needs and speak with parents, an needed
  • Communicate with kitchen staff, if appropriate, to clarify dietary needs and availability
  • Assist host site in creating an IBD friendly menu, if requested
  • Assist campers with special diets requiring special meals/snacks brought from home
  • Assist in evaluating the camp menu with suggestions for the following season
  • Participate in education session during camp week
  • Perform other duties as designated by the Medical Director & Camp Director

Essential Functions

  • Ability to assist campers at each meal and snack times making safe and healthy choices
  • Ability to respond to situations that arise with campers (e.g. dietary changes based on how a camper is feeling that day)
  • Ability to work directly with campers
  • Ability to guide staff so that they may help their campers make good food choices

Specific Qualifications

  • A valid license in dietetics/Registered Dietitian 
  • Experience with pediatric patients preferred
  • Desire and ability to work with children and adults with IBD in a camp setting
  • Preferred: Experience with pediatric GI patient
